Big events like Holiday feasts and Eastern brunches require a lot of preparation. However, this recipe will simplify the process! It’s quick and easy and uses simple ingredients. Pair this baked ham with roasted or pan-seared vegetables, cheesy potatoes, and other sides. Don’t forget about the leftovers! You can use them to make delicious sandwiches, soups, and breakfast egg bites.

Ingredients

Please refer to the recipe card below for full ingredient measurements.

  • 1  bone-in, spiral-cut ham, 6-8 pounds
  • 1 large orange (or 2 smaller oranges)
  • For glaze:
  • Dark brown sugar, packed
  • Orange juice
  • Honey (sub with pure maple syrup)
  • Cinnamon
  • Powdered cloves
  • Powdered allspice (sub with cinnamon)

How to Make Baked Ham

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Bring the glaze ingredients to a simmer over medium heat for 3 minutes, stirring often. Remove from heat, cover, and keep warm.
  • Unwrap the spiral ham and lightly rinse it under cold water. Doing this will help remove a bit of excess salt but is purely optional. Pat dry with paper towels.
  • Rinse and dry the orange. Cut off the ends, and slice the orange into thin round slices. Next, cut the slices in half or half-moon shapes.
  • Insert the orange slices into the ham every 2 slices, depending on the size of the ham.
  • Stand the ham, bone-side up, on a wire rack placed on top of a roasting pan or baking sheet.
  • Brush half of the glaze on the ham. Secure the ham with aluminum foil and bake for 80 minutes. Reserve the remaining glaze for later.
  • After this time, remove the ham from the oven and increase the heat to 375 degrees.
  • Once the oven is fully heated, carefully remove the foil from the ham. Brush the remaining glaze and place it back into the oven for 10-12 minutes to caramelize the glaze. Keep a close eye on it.

Serving and Storing Leftover Baked Ham

  • Remove the ham from the oven and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Transfer the baked ham to a serving platter or cutting board, and serve.
  • To store leftovers, remove orange slices and discard them. Store the ham slices in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven.

Recipe Tips

  • Use a good quality spiral-cut, bone-in ham for best results.
  • Ham should be cooked to an internal temperature of 145 degrees F. It’s okay if it goes above this temperature, but not below.
  • Prepare the glaze ahead of time, and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days in advance. Rewarm in a pot on the stovetop before using. Thin it out with a little water if it thickens during the cooling process.
  • Serve this baked ham with your favorite vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a potato casserole.
